Firework (2010)
I welcomed the new year half-sleepy, half-enthusiastic; not to be considered as a whole fraction of a “feeling,” but more of not being able to completely let myself feel the feeling. If that makes any sense. 2010 was a year of frustrations and struggles (I won’t bore anyone anymore about them; they had been the theme of most of my entries in those past few months anyway). And while everyone was feeling hopeful and excited about the new year, I did not feel anything novel at all. And that’s a first (New Year’s is always exciting to me).
I think the reason why is because there was excess baggage given to us before going on break; I couldn’t fully enjoy the holidays because of the exam that was scheduled the day we came back. It made real to me the sacrifices that I had and have to make, and the reality of that delayed gratification thing which haunts me (and the rest of my batchmates) every single day.
(Aaand this is turning out to be another whiny post. But I do have a point, I promise).
Today, however, I am reminded of the many little blessings I had received. Blessings that, as I think about it now, ultimately trumps the streak of frustrations from 2010. Friends (old and new), family, seeing and experiencing new places, and the constant reminder that there is love to be found everywhere on this earth—- it’s all a matter of perspective. With that said, I think a change of perception will be what I will work most on for this year; I think it will do me a lot of good. And also patience, because I have lost a lot of it last year.
So here’s to 2011. May it be my year, your year, everyone’s year. Happy new year! :)
